I am starting to figure out what is ruining my weight loss for me….SATURDAYS. My kids and I are on a great schedule all week, especially as far as food is concerned.I basically eat the same healthy thing every day for lunch (spinach wrap with a little bit of brown rice, corn, salsa, and black beans) and have gotten into the habit of not snacking much during the day.

On Saturdays and Sundays that all goes to hell. We spend a lot of Saturdays running errands, grocery shopping, and doing fun things as a family. Unfortunately we’ve gotten into the habit of “fun things” including eating out. Eating out is seriously the number 1 thing you can do to sabotage your own weight loss. The number of calories in restaurant and fast food food is OUTRAGEOUS. You seriously wouldn’t believe it.

Here are a few examples:

ONE Olive Garden Breadstick (and get real, you eat like 5): 140 calories EACH (and we won’t even talk
          about carbs)..Also, 370 mg of sodium per breadstick. Geesh.
That dressing on the Olive Garden salad? Yeah, 90 calories per serving.
ONE serving of Olive Garden Chicken Fetuccine Alfredo: 1800 calories!
ONE serving of molten chocolate cake from Chili’s: 1270 calories.
ONE order of chicken crispers from Chili’s: 1900 calories!
ONE order of grilled baby back ribs from Chilis: 1400 calories
ONE McDouble from Mcdonalds: 460 calories
ONE large chocolate shake from McDonalds: 750 calories

These are clearly unhealthy things, you might say. But what about those things on the menu that you THINK are healthy?

Mcdonald’s premium grilled classic chicken sandwich: 450 calories
Olive Garden Grilled Shrimp Caprese: 900 calories
Olive Garden Herb Grilled Salmon: 510 calories.

And keep in mind, these numbers do not include any sides, drinks, or sauces…and these are only a few examples from a few restaurants. If you’re actively trying to lose weight you’re probably supposed to be consuming less than 2000 calories per day. For example, I’m trying to lose 1.5 lbs per week, so I’m budgeted 1170 calories per day (a lot of people have said that is too few, but it’s working for me so I’m not going to worry about it). If I ate a 900 calorie dinner I could only eat 200 more calories the rest of the day. Shyeah, not happening. SO. Eating out kills me.

We got into the habit of going out for lunch after church on Sundays. We always got the same thing, and I always got a sweet tea, hamburger, and buffalo chips. That on it’s own is way too many calories for one meal. In addition to all of that, the servers that restaurant CONSTANTLY refill your glass. It really never gets below half empty before they refill it…so who knows how many glasses of sweet tea you’re REALLY drinking. In addition to that, the buffalo chips come with ranch dressing. A lot of ranch dressing. Do you know how many calories are in a tablespoon of ranch dressing? 75-100! Per TABLESPOON! That’s EASILY 5-600 calories per meal, just in ranch dressing.

So…that’s where the lbs are going, folks. One meal a week that is absolute garbage can sabotage an entire week’s worth of hard work and discipline. I hear a lot about people having, “cheat days,” but if you’re serious about losing weight, those “cheat days” may be sabotaging you like they have been me! 

Last week I lost: 2 lbs :) 
In the last 30 days I have run: 68 miles! Wow!
